EUPHA’s 5th European Conference on Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health
Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health and Healthcare in the context of the current systemic crisis in Europe

  • The economic crisis that affects Europe, particularly the southern countries, has brought, across the regions, important changes in social and health policy which are creating new sources of vulnerability for disadvantaged populations, specially for migrants and ethnic minorities.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum to share and discuss different approaches and practical experiences around migrants’ and ethnic minorities’ health and healthcare in a context of economic austerity. Policy and decision makers, researchers from various disciplines, health practitioners, and NGO representatives will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience on the named field.

Advancing knowledge on the impact of the economic crisis in these issues, discussing strategies in the field of healthcare and social welfare policies, as well as disseminating examples of good practices in local and regional contexts will be key outcomes of the conference.

On behalf of the European Public Health Association [EUPHA] Section on Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health, the Consortium for Healthcare and Social Services of Catalonia [CSC] and the Andalusian School of Public Health [EASP] we have the hounour of inviting you to the 5th European Conference on Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health.

  • Welcome Note from the Organizers

Welcome to the website of this challenging and important conference. The current systemic crisis is affecting the health and social aspects of many communities, not least in southern European countries. Its adverse impacts upon vulnerable groups are already an unfortunate reality. We are facing significant changes in health and social policies in many European countries, with a worrying and regressive tendency to restrict rights and access to health care. Vulnerable groups such as migrants and ethnic minorities are in the centre of the public and political debate. In this contextual frame, we have to create opportunities for healthier ways, policies and practices.

We have the ambition to bring together practitioners, academics, policy makers, immigrants, representatives of civil society and other relevant European actors. Our goal is to exchange and debate existing evidence and best practices, interventions and policies to minimise the adverse impacts of the crisis and to maximise any single opportunity to improve the health and social spheres of the affected population.

Thus, the idea is to facilitate a forum to share and discuss different approaches of analysis and practical experiences in migrants and ethnic minority health and access to health care in this challenging context for better and healthier evidence-based policies.

On behalf of the Organising and Scientific Committees, we invite you to participate in this 5th European Conference and we look forward to welcoming you in the magical city of Granada.
